Historical Sketch
Theatrical
productions were a part of Lake Charles Junior College (LCJC) (now McNeese
State University) from its inception. At the dedication of the Auditorium
(now Bulber Auditorium) on March 29, 1940, the Baton Rouge Town and Gown
Players mounted a production of Our Town. In April, 1940, the LCJC
Dramatic Club staged The Antics of Andrew. Since then, the study of
Theatre Arts at McNeese has flourished, with students winning countless
awards for their accomplishments.
Scope and Content Note
The
McNeese State University Theatre Department Records contain material from
most of the productions held since ca. 1945, including photographs,
playbills, notes, posters, costume designs, exhibit materials, and
reviews. The Records also include information on Alpha Psi Omega, the
dramatic fraternity. The Records are organized into the following series:
Productions (1969-2001);
Photograph albums (1981-2003);
Posters, costume
designs, etc. (1955-2001);
Alpha Psi Omega (1960-2004); and the
50th
Anniversary of MSU Theatre (ca. 1945-1989).
