CITATION: The Calcasieu and Cameron Parish Aerial Photographs, Collection No. 66, Archives and Special Collections Department, Frazar Memorial Library, McNeese State University. Historical Note In the late 1930s, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency began an aerial photography program in order to accurately measure the millions of acres of farmland across the United States. Sometimes the agency contracted the work to outside companies. For example, in 1940 the Edgar Tobin Aerial Surveys of San Antonio created aerial photographs of Calcasieu Parish. Through the years, the USDA repeated the photography project to maintain an accurate record of the nation’s land. Scope and Content The Calcasieu and Cameron Parish Aerial Photographs consist of index maps, small reference photographs, and larger aerial photographs, 1940-1998. How to use the Aerial Photographs Patrons may request either the index map or the reference photographs from the Archives and Special Collections Department Reading Room staff. To find the larger aerial photograph of a certain place and date, find its approximate location on the index map or the reference photographs.
