Biographical Sketch

Owen Bourque was born in Oberlin, Louisiana, and raised in Lake Charles. He graduated from Marion High School in 1952, received a B.A. degree from McNeese College, and a commission in the U.S. Army in 1956. He attended LSU where he attained a Masters in Education in 1963. In 1970, he was selected to take part in the Rotary Club Exchange Program and spent two months in various private homes in Belgium. In 1980, he was chosen by the Fulbright Scholar Program and spent one month as a guest of the People’s Republic of China. Mr. Bourque was Department Head of Social Studies and Foreign Languages at LaGrange High School and taught American, Louisiana, and Russian histories. He retired in 1994.

The collection contains photographs and information relating primarily to the history of Marion High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and to the educational career and family of Owen “Buddy” Bourque.
