Archives and
Special Collections Department Historical Sketch The Calcasieu Forum of Lake Charles, La. began in the 1950s as an organization to discuss topics of interest to its members in literature, foreign countries, and current events. The organization holds meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays between September and May. Membership is limited to twenty five members. In addition to organizing regular meetings, the organization also donates materials and funds to the public library and the literacy council. Scope and Content Note The records consist of program booklets that list the topic and speaker for each meeting; meeting minutes, attendance rolls, and membership lists; correspondence; and newspaper clippings from the Lake Charles American Press. Each program booklet covers one year, from September to May. Most programs include a membership list and the current bylaws of the Calcasieu Forum. The minutes and membership information is mostly handwritten notes from both regular meetings and executive board meetings. Container List
