Biographical Sketch
Daniel T. Flavin began his career in Lake Charles,
Louisiana as a real estate broker. He served as Vice-President of Century
21 Flavin Realty and is now President of Flavin Realty, Inc. He attended
McNeese State University and graduated from the Realtors Institute. In
1985 he became president of the Greater Calcasieu Board of Realtors and in
1987 he was voted Realtor of the Year. Flavin served as a member of the
Louisiana Real Estate Commission from 1989 to 1995 and as Chairman in
1995. Flavin was selected as the District 5 Small Business Administration
Award Recipient by the Louisiana Department of Economic Development and
the U.S. Small Business Administration in 1997.
Flavin was elected to the Louisiana House of
Representatives as a Republican from District No. 36 in 1995. In the
Legislature, Flavin worked on issues such as road projects and repairs,
economic development, education, commerce, and insurance. He served on the
Committees of Commerce, Retirement, Natural Resources, and the House
Executive Committee. He was elected to a third term as a State
Representative in 2003, but officially resigned in April 2005.
Flavin has held memberships in numerous civic and
religious organizations including the National Association of Realtors,
the Chamber Southwest Louisiana, the City of Lake Charles Board of Zoning
Adjustments, the Housing & Community Development Committee, the St. Louis
High School Foundation Board, and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic
Church. Flavin has six children and resides in Lake Charles with his wife,
Lisa.
Scope and Content Note
The Flavin Papers deal primarily with his legislative
work, consisting of issue files and correspondence. The Papers also
include some personal documents and mementos. The issues files include
materials about Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes; Congressional District
Boundaries; Planning & Development; Gaming; Education; Wildlife &
Fisheries; Conservation; Transportation & Development; Health Care; Taxes;
Finance; Road Projects; Community Programs; and Bills.
