Biographical Sketch
Mervin J. LaBorde was born in 1911 in Avoyelles
Parish. He was a member of the Democratic Party and served as a Louisiana
state representative from District 33 from 1972 to 1980. In his youth,
LaBorde worked as a school principal and for Western Union. In 1931,
LaBorde married Estelle Bordelon. In 1937 they settled in Sulphur,
Louisiana and opened a car dealership and repair shop. Throughout his
life, LaBorde remained dedicated to public service and community service.
Scope
and Content Note
The papers consist of LaBorde’s cards, letters,
certificates, clippings, and photographs, primarily collected during his
time in the Louisiana state legislature.
