On the evening of Friday, September 24, 2005 and into the next day, Hurricane Rita ravaged Southwest Louisiana and extreme southeast Texas and added to the flooding woes in New Orleans. Hurricane Rita, the third Category 5 hurricane of 2005, was a life-changing event for the people, communities, and natural environment of the area.
