Southwest Louisiana Legislative Delegation Steering
Committee and McNeese State University have partnered to establish
resources at the University which promote awareness and understanding of
the history of the Southwest Louisiana legislative delegation, with the
goal of gathering and preserving historically significant records and
artifacts, encouraging research, generating public discussion, fostering a
climate of good government, and encouraging careers in public service.
The Committee also hosts the annual William L. “Bill” McLeod, Jr. Lecture
Series on Louisiana Politics in conjunction with
The Banners Series.

The following
individual collections comprise the Southwest Louisiana
Legislative Delegation Collection:
The J. Burton Andrepont Papers
A scrapbook and oral history documenting
the career of Burt Andrepont, state representative from Sulphur and
Director of the Lake Charles Port.
The Joe Wood Berry Photographs
The collection consists of 5 photographs of Louisiana public officials
taken during Berry's career as a lobbyist.
The Jack Doland Papers
The collection consists of six photographs, ca. 1987; eulogies,
proclamations, and letters surrounding Doland’s death, 1991-1992; and an
advertising proof sheet for Doland’s 1987 campaign for the Louisiana
Senate.
The Daniel T. Flavin Papers
The Papers deal primarily with the legislative work of Dan Flavin, State
Representative from District 36. The Papers consist of materials
primarily about Calcasieu and Cameron Parish legislative issues and some
personal documents and mementos.
The
Lether E. Frazar Collection
Contains general and miscellaneous information about L. E. Frazar,
correspondence to and from L. E. Frazar dating from 1935-1959,
scholarships issued from 1956-1960, information about Louisiana schools
and government, wool hat, boxing gloves and photographs.
The
Scott Heywood Collection
Business and personal correspondence from
1899 to the 1950s concerning Mr. Heywood's many business and political
activities. Frequently referred to as the father of the Louisiana oil
industry, W. Scott Heywood was also a state senator from Jennings. The
collection also contains miscellaneous photographs, charts and maps.
The
Harry Hollins Collection
Papers documenting the legislative and
political career of Harry Hollins, state representative from Lake Charles,
1963-1989.
The
Kay Iles Papers
The collection consists of newspaper
clippings of Iles’ campaign for Representative, campaign ephemera, five
photographs of Iles visiting a junior high school classroom, and a bound
volume (The Louisiana House of Representatives 2003 Yearbook for Rep. Iles).
The yearbook outlines Iles’ voting record and bills she authored.
The Robert "Bob" G. Jones Papers
The collection consists of photocopies of two scrapbooks kept by Robert
“Bob” G. Jones during his two political campaigns and audio tapes campaign
ads and speeches. Also includes a film showing his father, former Governor
Sam Houston Jones, making a speech.
The
Sam Jones Collection
Five scrapbooks of Governor Jones'
administration from 1941-1944, primarily newspaper clippings.
The
Alvin O. King Collection
The collection contains correspondence,
newspapers, business papers, diaries, political papers, tokens and
photographs from Alvin O. King, former Louisiana state senator
(1924-1931), governor (1932), associate of Kelly-Weber Company and
publisher of the Southwest Citizen (1949-1951).
The
Mervin J. LaBorde Papers
The papers consist of LaBorde’s cards, letters, certificates, clippings,
and photographs, primarily collected during his time in the Louisiana
state legislature.
The
Conway LeBleu Collection
Contains two scrapbooks containing
clippings, photographs and correspondence from 1964-1988, chronicling
LeBleu's 24 years in the Louisiana House of Representatives from the 36th
District.
The
Kenneth Leithman Papers
The collection consists of photocopies of a
scrapbook (1968-2000, n.d.) kept by Kenneth Leithman. Documents in the
scrapbook concern the “Young Turks” of the Louisiana State Legislature,
including a copy of the articles of incorporation and bylaws, and
Leithman’s political career.

The Lady Marilyn "Cissie" McLeod Papers
The Papers consist of notes, clippings, photographs, correspondence,
ephemera, yearbooks, and certificates concerning Cissie McLeod’s personal
life; her family; the First Presbyterian Church; and the Allen, Qualls,
and Nelson families.
The William L. "Bill" McLeod, Jr. Papers
The William L. "Bill" McLeod, Jr. Papers consist of notes, documents,
correspondence, clippings, photographs, a yearbook, and ephemera relating
to McLeod's political career.
The William L. "Bill" McLeod, Jr. Lecture Series
Collection
The
collection consists of documents relating to the various activities of the
McLeod Lecture Series, the Southwest Louisiana Legislative Delegation
Archives program, and the Oral History program.
The Clement M. Moss Papers
The papers consist of reproductions of two photographs of Clement M. Moss
and two campaign flyers. One campaign flyer concerns Moss’ campaign for
District Judge (ca. 1961). The other flyer outlines the “Home Rule” ticket
spearheaded by Cleveland Dear for Governor (1936).
The Vic Stelly Papers
The Papers consist of documents, certificates, photographs, and clippings
relating to Stelly’s political and civic activities.
