Location & Hours

The Archives & Special Collections Department is located on the first floor of Frazar Memorial Library on the campus of McNeese State University. The department is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and by appointment. Anyone with a meaningful inquiry may use our resources, but all patrons must follow our Rules of Use.

Driving Directions from the East

Take Interstate Highway 10 west into Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, then change to Interstate Highway 210 when approaching Lake Charles. From Interstate Highway 210, take exit 6A (Ryan Street) in Lake Charles. Turn left from the exit ramp onto Ryan Street and drive south for one mile. After you cross Sale Road, you will see the university on your left. At the next traffic light on the corner of Ryan Street and Beauregard Drive (The H.C. Drew Enrollment Center is on the far left), turn left onto Beauregard Drive. Frazar Library is on the right across from a large parking lot.

Driving Directions from the West

Take Interstate Highway 10 east into Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, then change to Interstate Highway 210 when approaching Lake Charles. From Interstate Highway 210, take exit 6A (Ryan Street) in Lake Charles. Turn left from the exit ramp onto College Street and drive east for 1/10 of a mile to the intersection of College Street and Ryan Street. Turn right onto Ryan Street and drive south for one mile. After you cross Sale Road, you will see the university on your left. At the next traffic light on the corner of Ryan Street and Beauregard Drive (The H.C. Drew Enrollment Center is on the far left), turn left onto Beauregard Drive. Frazar Library is on the right across from a large parking lot.

Driving Directions from the North

Take Highway 171 south into Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.  Continue south as you approach Lake Charles and Highway 171 becomes Highway 14.  Continuing south on Highway 14, you will pass under Interstate 210 and pass a Walmart on the left.  Turn right onto McNeese Street and drive west. After you cross Common Street, you will see the university on your right. At the next traffic light turn right onto Ryan Street.  At the next traffic light on the corner of Ryan Street and Beauregard Drive (The H.C. Drew Enrollment Center is on the right), turn right onto Beauregard Drive. Frazar Library is on the right across from a large parking lot.

Driving Directions from the South

Take Highway 14 north into Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.   Continuing north on Highway 14, turn left onto McNeese Street and drive west. After you cross Common Street, you will see the university on your right. At the next traffic light turn right onto Ryan Street.  At the next traffic light on the corner of Ryan Street and Beauregard Drive (The H.C. Drew Enrollment Center is on the right), turn right onto Beauregard Drive. Frazar Library is on the right across from a large parking lot.

Parking

Visitors are entitled to the use of all parking areas and zones except specially designated reserved parking spaces for administrative personnel and service vehicles. Visitors receiving citations for parking violations are not subject to the payment of fines and penalties, but are requested to comply with the instructions found on the back of the ticket. A division of the Calcasieu Parish Public Library, the Genealogical and Historical Library keeps resources useful for studying family and local history in Southwest Louisiana. Among its holdings are federal census records, city directories, tax assessment rolls, and indexes to marriages and naturalizations.
