HURRICANE REPORTS
RELEASED DOCUMENTS LIBRARIAN FEATURED IN LIBRARY JOURNAL Rebecca Blakeley, McNeese Documents Librarian, is featured in Library Journal's "Movers and Shakers" feature (March 15, 2009 issue). Rebecca was nominated by her professional peers and colleagues to be profiled in the Movers & Shakers special issue. The Library Exhibits web site has been revised. For a closer look, click here. An exhibit on Hurricane Audrey is now on display at the McNeese Library through September 1, 2009. The exhibit was created to accompany the documentary, All Over But to Cry. The National Hurricane Center has released its official reports on 2008 named tropical systems. Included are detailed reports on Hurricanes Edouard, Gustav, and Ike. All three of these storms affected the southwest Louisiana area, and were part of a record-setting tropical season. The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Lake Charles has also published local reports on Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Hurricane Ike storm inundation and high water elevation maps are also provided. Hurricane Rita Flood Recovery maps, showing surge and high water marks, are available by clicking here. NETLIBRARY COLLECTION EXPANDED NetLibrary Collection VIII has been recently purchased by the McNeese Library. This collection adds nearly 3000 titles to the Library's existing collection of electronic, or e-books. McNeese NetLibrary books can be accessed from any on-site Library computer. Off-campus access to that same collection requires users to register and create a NetLibrary account using a Library computer. Once created, patrons can then use their account name and password to access the McNeese eContent collection from any PC with Internet access. Further instructions for NetLibrary are available by contacting the Reference Department. The McNeese Philosophy Club meets every Monday (during academic semesters) at 2:30 p.m. in Room C of the McNeese University Library. Interested faculty, staff, and students are welcome. SCHOOL LIBRARIAN CERTIFICATION ONLINE PROGRAM McNeese State University announces the School Library Certification program is now available online, starting in Fall, 2009. Registration for classes begins March 30. The School Library Certification program is a Library Science add-on certification for School Media Specialists.
