It is important to determine appropriate Library of Congress
Subject Headings (LCSH) under which to search for information
relevant to your topic. Subject headings are standardized
terms under which library materials are arranged. Consult the

FINDING ARTICLES:
Check at the Reference Desk for the Journals Holdings List,
which lists all the periodicals available in the library.
Periodicals (also known as journals, magazines or serials) are
located on the 2nd floor and are shelved alphabetically by
title. There is also a brief list of journals by subject,
available at the Reference Desk, which may help you find
titles. A listing of journals owned by local hospitals is also
available.
INDEXES/ABSTRACTS:TOOLS FOR FINDING ARTICLES AT MCNEESE AND
BEYOND
Most indexes are now online thanks to LOUIS, the Louisiana
Online University Information System. Older paper copies of
the indexes are available in the Reference Department.

The definitive index for nursing literature, the Cumulative
Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature indexes and
abstracts more than 950 English-language nursing and medical
journals.
MEDLINE (Cambridge
Scientific Abstracts,
EBSCO or INTERNET<http://www.nlm.nih.gov>)
Medline provides citations and abstracts to international
bio-medical literature from over 3,700 journals covering
topics such as research, clinical practice, administration,
policy issues, and healthcare.
